How did road school / road work go?
Sojourner Road work went surprisingly well. It worked best when I had things I could do on my own, or when collaborating on really concrete things. It got harder after we shipped a release and were planning the next one, because there was a lot going on at the office that I didn't have the face-to-face context for. Internet connections were sometimes painful but never to the point of rendering me completely unable to work. It worked great that the kids were road schooling or sleeping when I was working. I never felt like the rest of the family was vacationing while I toiled. | Wesley Road school worked well for keeping the kids up to date with what they needed to be learning at school. It would have been great if we had had a foreign study curriculum where we could have really incorporated what we were seeing on the road. But, before the trip I was too busy with work to put one together. | Luigi Road school was great. I got better at concentrating and being more productive. It enhanced my learning and work habits. | Columbia I learned a lot and grew a lot, from a little sprout to a bush! I discovered I might become an artist. But, when I came back to school I wasn't used to the classroom noise. Also, in school I have more materials. |
Where did we not spend a long enough time and you'd like to revisit?
Sojourner A. Southern Italy B. Torino (but not in the Winter!) | Wesley A. Torino B. Antibes C. Dubrovnik | Luigi Toulouse | Columbia The Novotel hotel in Toulouse. |
Any last words?
Sojourner So many different things came together to allow us to take this trip, from my awesome managers and colleagues, to the school, to Wesley managing our nest egg. Leasing our house worked great. Internet sites made booking apartments overseas possible. We both have flexible work we can do on the computer from anywhere. We're in good health, and the kids are the right ages for traveling. Email, this blog, and Skype helped us stay in touch with family and friends. I'm so glad we did it, and I'm already on the lookout for where to go next! | Wesley Sojourner planned a great trip. | Luigi Our trip was awesome. | Columbia What Luigi said. |
